Tour Nagasaki, exotic port town

Located at the westernmost point of Japan, Nagasaki is enclosed by sea and mountains. With its tangle of sloping cobblestone roads and narrow alleys, it overflows with history. Thanks to the vibrant trade period with Europe and China while the rest of Japan was closed off, Nagasaki’s lifestyle, dining, and street fronts retain strong foreign influences for an exotic air. Glover Garden

Famous Nagasaki Western mansions including the Glover House and Ringer House, nationally designated important cultural properties, as well as the Alt House were dismantled and restored here. Enjoy the exotic atmosphere unique to Nagasaki.

Oura Church

Built in honor of the 26 Martyrs of Japan, the first in Japan, this is the oldest wooden church in Japan standing and has been designated a national treasure.

Shinchi Chinese District

This is one of Japan’s three great Chinese districts, along with those in Yokohama and Kobe. Restaurants and general stores crowd the cobblestone cross streets within a radius of 300 feet. For lunch, be sure to try Nagasaki champon ramen and Nagasaki udon, local dishes that are the local pride.

Dejima

Dejima was built by filling in the ocean, completed during the Edo Period in 1636. The Dutch East India Company in Hirado was moved here in 1641, and great contributions were made to the modernization of Japan through the cultural and economic exchange linking Japan and Europe. A visit to Dejima lets you experience this history.

Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum

The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum recreates the horrors in Nagasaki that followed the 1945 atomic bombing. The museum displays numerous materials that brings to life the suffering caused by the atomic bomb in hope for a world without nuclear weapons.

Peace Park

When the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945, people thought that not a single blade of grass would ever grow on this tract of land again. Now it’s been reborn as a beautiful park filled with greenery.
